The Tree of Life.

Decided to put up a fan made poster as it’s miles better than the official ones. Thanks to Skinny Glasses.

I’ve not seen the third X-men or the Wolverine film. However I knew enough about the series to be able to watch this.

On the whole I enjoyed the film. McAvoy did a splendid wee performance. Michael Fassbender did an incredible performance. Kevin Bacon blew my tits off he was that good.

Aside from that though I was treated to a brilliant wee cameo from Hugh Jackman as Wolverine. Also most other performances were good stuff.

Shot & edited well on the whole. Main criticism would be too many special effects, especially in the 2nd half of the film. However I suppose it is an X-Men film and so I’ll probably have to let that go. Too action heavy though in the 2nd half definitely. Probably too long as well by 10-minutes or so.

Greatly enjoyable film though, much better than the others I’ve seen.

Would be interested in a sequel. If it was done properly.

Conclusion: I’ll watch anything with Fassbender and Kevin Bacon in it.

Another Jason Statham film this year. Didn’t see much promoting of this film going on before it came out. The only reason I knew about it was because after The Mechanic I’d checked to see what else Statham was up to.

Anyway, pretty solid wee film. Surprisingly good. Considine and Statham on form. Aiden Gillen also providing a pretty solid performance as ‘The Blitz’.

Nothing mind-blowing but an enjoyable watch and hope to see more. Apparently Blitz is taken from a series of books and so if they decided to make more I would’nt object.

Saw this film knowing little about it. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Well shot and edited. Very fast paced action with good performances all round. Eric Bana was good, as was the rest. My favourite performance was that of Tom Hollander, as the pressed tracksuit wearing psychopath. Incredible score from the Chemical Brothers.

Things that could have been improved on were perhaps the beginning, I felt it was dragged out a little too long. Apart from that I’ve little to say that isn’t being picky.

Saw this uber indie film a couple of weeks back now. Sometimes films can be a bit too indie for me (Juno). Other times they can be just the right amount of indie (Life Aquatic). Submarine is kind of inbetween with some moments being quirky enough to be realistic, and others being so indoe that they are jarring and make you think “fucks sake thats a bit much”

On the whole enjoyed the film and it made me laugh plenty of times, so a hearty thumbs up but it does walk dangerously close to the overly indie mark.

Most of the characters are relatively unlikable which is unfortunate, but you do develop certain sympathies for some characters. This will all probably depend on your own experience’s growing up. I’m increasingly becoming more intolerant which is unfortunate if the main charcater in your film, (a schoolboy) crys for days on a pier overlooking the ocean when he breaks up with his girlfriend of a short few weeks. Anyway,

On the whole an enjoyable if not largely depressing film at points. Some pretty incredible scenes, good dialogue and very well shot. Paddy Considine is class as well.

Richard Ayoade should be proud.

Saw this film at a special event the other night. It was in the Cameo and featured a Q+A with Ken Loach afterwards.

The film was very good. An interesting story with a good strong lead character. Shot well for the most part in Liverpool.

The film has a very strong political message to do with UK Government policy on PMSC’s, the Private Military Companies that send mercenaries to places such as Afghanistan. I won’t go into detail about that as I’m interested in the film and not in getting political, but more info can be found places like here. They have a strong message thats worth looking at.

The film is quite emotional at points and really well executed. It’s well paced.

There are a couple of smaller roles in the film which I feel could have been better acted if I’m being harsh, but you let it go because the main actor Mark Womack is so good.

John Bishop is also very good in the film. Enjoyed watching his scenes a lot.

There are some hard hitting scenes in there that were at points difficult to watch.

The film really works in getting you worked up and angry about UK Gov foreign policy on the Middle East. Although it could be criticised perhaps for being a little one sided. I’m not sure, I don’t know enough about the issue to really comment on that.

Very good film, another belter from Ken Loach and Paul Laverty.

A good team, heard both of them speak now about their work and they’re films are worth watching if you’ve never seen them before. My name is Eric is another good one.

This film would’ve been better if it was called, Taken 2: I want my memory back.

Basically Liam Neeson is an absolute legend. Unfortunately the film wasn’t that exciting. Most of the film is in the trailer and the film does little to surprise you. It’s well shot and Neeson has a very watchable screen presence however the story majorly lets it done. In Taken Neeson was tearing up the screen and it was great to watch. In this film he just wonders about confused and looking a bit lost muttering “I don’t remember”, until the end of the film where he does remember.

Nearer the end of the film things start to get a bit more exciting, but this needed to happen much sooner for the film to work in my opinion.

Bruno Ganz deserves a mention for being very good.

Just as well Taken 2 has been confirmed, I’m still a big fan of Neeson and I’d be lying if I said there wasn’t some enjoyable bits in Unknown.

Didn’t really know much about this film other than it was Australian, had Guy Pierce in it and that there was an 80s tune in the trailer. So I went to see it and was pretty entertained throughout. I didn’t enjoy the last 3rd of the film, not because it was badly made, although the structure may have been a bit off, but because I didn’t like what was happening in the story. I shouldn’t let this affect the film tho, it just wasn’t nice to watch one incident in particular.

it was definitely a different kind of film. it felt nice and fresh, quite original and unpredictable.

The acting was very good mostly. Guy Pierce and the rest all very enjoyable and solid. Ben Mendelsohn was very good, although a bastard of a character in the film, you can’t take your eye’s of him, He holds the screen very well. As do a lot fo the characters. the main played by James Frecheville wasn’t as enjoyable to watch but played the role well.

A film worth seeing, but hard viewing at points.

The last out of the ten oscar nominations I needed to see for Best Picture. There has been so much talk of this film it’s amazing it’s taken this long to see it. It was as everybody is saying pretty solid. I’ve few complaints really other than the folk I saw it with making too much noise.

The film was well shot and well performed. Perhaps slightly exaggerated performance from Churchill, but it provided humour.

Not sure what I can say about this film that every other critic in the country hasn’t. It was nice to see a film in which the protagonist’s quest didn’t include getting a woman. It was a nice insight into Royal Family living and the time period. I’m no expert on Royal Families and don’t have much intrest in them but it was quite interesting.

Firth and Rush’s chemistry was very good indeed. Was good to see Carter playing someone not insane. She was very good.

Very well shot.

Not much more to say. Very enjoyable. Not sure I’d vote it best picture, Inception might get my vote. Unsure.

With all the oscar hype etc… I thought I’d best see this film. After watching it I’ve no idea why it has an oscar nomination. Other than the fact it’s done by a couple of “cool” directors.

Firstly let me get this out of my system, there were some very obvious bad special effects in the film. A film which does not even need special effects.

Also a girl who has just swam through a very large river appears to be exceptionally dry when getting to the other side.

Next, I couldn’t understand what jeff Bridges was saying half the time. I can let this go in some instances as it’s his character, but the joke of Jeff Bridges character got old for me pretty quick.

Damon was pretty good.

The main girl who tells the story I found incredibly annoying. Instead of going out to avenge her fathers death at the age of 14, she should clearly have just done ordinary 14year old girl things. (SPOILER)That way she’d maybe not be so messed up in later life, as we see at the end of the film.

She was good at acting tho to be fair.

The film seemed to be a mish mash of serious western action and drama, and extreme comedy. It didn’t work for me.

I liked segments of the film, there were some very good and enjoyable scenes. However on the whole I just think it was a bit of a mess. I think there’s a lot of people out there pretending to like it because they think they should.

Don’t see this film, see some of the better oscar nominations such as Winters Bone.

However, if you like the film, I guess there’s nothing wrong with that. Better than I could do likely.
